All young girls want to feel like they fit in with their peers. When they stand out—and can’t help it—they can feel confused and dejected. In first and second grades Emeline (Debbie’s daughter and Win’s granddaughter) was in such a place. She found it increasingly difficult to “keep herself together” at school.
At first, we thought, and her teachers agreed, that it was just a behavioral issue. As Emeline continued to struggle, we all concluded she needed more help. This led us to knowledgeable professionals who diagnosed Emeline with attention deficit disorder (ADD), also referred to as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD).
Our experiences inspired us to share Emeline’s story through fictional yet feisty Andi. We hope through our story, told with humor and a tender touch, other girls with ADD will see a bit of themselves in Andi and that her story will uplift and encourage them. Most of all, we hope Andi helps them better understand and cherish themselves for the wonderful young women God created them to be.
